Description
On November 24, 1973, an American DC-3 crashed on the black sand beach of Sólheimasandur near the town of Vík in South Iceland. All crew members survived the crash.
The exact reason for the crash is not known, although some sources suggest that the plane ran out of fuel after the pilot switched to the wrong fuel tank.
The wreckage still lies on the beach near the sea. Although the wreck is missing some pieces. For example, the wings and tailpiece have disappeared.
No one knows where they have gone, although it is rumored that a farmer took them to sell in Vík.
The photo was taken in January, during winter. The black beach is covered with snow
The photo has been edited in black and white for an extra dramatic effect. This gives an extra mysterious effect to the image
Urban, abandoned places
